Did you know that the earliest known recipe for S'mores can be found in a Girl Scout camping guide from 1927? It's true! In honor of this delicious and longstanding Girl Scout tradition, we're getting ready to celebrate National S'mores Day on August 10th. And all of us at Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona want to know... What's the secret to the perfect S'more?
That's why we're holding a council-wide recipe contest to find out! All Girl Scouts are invited to enter, by submitting their most creative, most delicious S'mores recipe. Please include ingredients, cooking instructions, a photo or two, and any special notes needed to bring the flavors to life just the way you like them. (For example, does your S'more taste best with a gooey marshmallow, a charred marshmallow, or a perfectly golden-toasted marshmallow? Let us know!) The deadline to submit is July 31st. On August 1st, the recipes will be anonymously shared with our council judges, who will be considering creativity, taste, and presentation in order to pick five finalists. On August 6th, we'll post those recipes here on #TheLowDown...and then you'll help us pick the Grand Prize Winner! An online poll will be open all week. On Friday, August 10th (aka, National S'mores Day!) we will announce the winner here at #TheLowDown and on our social media pages. The winning Girl Scout will receive a special S'mores kit and a $30 gift certificate to the Girl Scout Shop, and see her recipe shared with her sister Girl Scouts across our council! Is your stomach grumbling yet? Ours sure are! To submit your recipe, please email it to Jessica at [email protected]. Be sure to include your name and your Girl Scout level. Please put "RECIPE CONTEST" in the email subject line.
